The Attendant's Chair, by Tim Johnstone:

How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
He's better known as 'Bearface' on the DPNow forum, and he's just finished curating the latest DPNow Forum Salon contest (because he won the previous Salon!). We're talking about Tim Johnstone, who was one of our very first DPNow Picture of the Day selections last year. And he's back today, with another POTD. We could have selected many from Tim's gallery, but the editor gets the final say and this is the one that got the nod.

What we have here is a spooky residue of the past. It's apparently set in a semi-derelic toilet in the old mill house that houses Tim's studio. Tim decided to record the state of the room for posterity last Christmas. It was also the subject of a lively debate on the forum.

Tim explains: "This was taken at the old mill where my studio is and this is the basement gents loo, which is a creepy place even during the working day, let alone during Christmas week, when the whole place was deserted."

Tim adds: "Okay, the techy stuff: 30 sec @ f16,17mm, (Tim uses a Canon EOS-5D - Ed) ISO200, very low light, with only natural light coming through skylight above. Had set out to create a sinister-looking image with a humourous twist, hence the working title of "'The Attendant's Chair'."

Although Tim is one of the more exceptional photographers we see on DPNow - and a professional, to boot, we do feature inspiring pictures from photographers of a wide range of background and ability. It's the picture that counts, after all.Personally, I think Martin should spoil himself a little as his photography justified it!
