Feeling Blue, by Martin Prior:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
Martin Prior is the provider of today's DPNow Picture of the Day. Martin's shot, taken at an airport on the way home from a trip abroad, evokes that familiar 'home again' feelling that can be a bit depressing if your trip was particularly enjoyable. The blue lighting accentuates this feeling. Although the picture may convey a slightly depressed message, it also captures the interesting form of the architecture and the idea of a continuing journey.
"We always use the train to travel to & from Manchester airport from our home in Leeds," explains Martin. He adds: "The overhead walkway between the train station and the airport is a grand piece of modern architecture. On this occasion on arriving home from Spain (March 2005, about 2100 hrs) we did not have to dash for the train.
"The walkway was almost deserted and looked amazing in the artificial lighting. Despite our luggage and my better half I got the camera out, actually thought to set the asa to 400 (max on my Olympus c765) hand held shutter of 1/25 aperture 2.8 and snapped. I have tried much harder and produced rubbish - such is life. The only post processing was to run the image through "neat image" to reduce the noise and I cropped a bit off the bottom."

We always ask new POTD contributors to provide a bit of backround information about themselves: "Me. I suppose I have always been a 'photographer' at heart but never pursued it vigourously enough it to become good." You only need to stop by Martin's gallery for proof that he underestimates his skills!
Martin continues: "I inherited my Dad's Kodak retinette in the early 60's. He used to use slide film which I continued to use for a few years. I flirted with an 8mm movie camera for a while and then manged to afford an Olympus SLR around 69 and then then family life took over. The camera baggage eventually became too much to lug around and I made do with a small Canon for family snaps although I still have the OM10 .
"I started with digital (OLY 2040c) in 2002 after I retired. I am slowly scanning both my Dad's and my own slides on to disc. I am having serious thought about buying a DSLR but I am:- a) not sure I would produce better images and b) not sure that I would be happy to carry the extra weight etc. and c) Not sure I can justify the expense."
Personally, I think Martin should spoil himself a little as his photography justified it! DPNow POTDs are selected exclusively from photos uploaded to the DPNow photo gallery.
