Photokina quick hands-on with the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100
19th September 2014
A much bigger sensor for the new LX100 but that's not the whole story Panasonic's new LX100 has a Four Thirds sensor at its heart As the budget-end of the compact digital camera market is being slaughtered by smartphones, camera manufacturers are focusing on the premium end. Panasonic Lumix is a prime example with the launch, at Photokina this week, of their latest LX model, the LX100. The headline news concerning the LX100 is its use of basically the same 16 megapixel Four Thirds sensor found in the Lumix GX7 Micro Four Thirds mirrorless system camera.

The fashion blogger’s new camera of choice
28th August 2014
London, August 28, 2014 – Writing on mademoisellerobot.com, fashion blogger Laetitia Wajnapel called her PEN "the ultimate fashion blogger camera". Pick up a new Olympus PEN E-PL7 and you will start to see why. PEN designers clearly understand something other camera brands often miss: people with an eye for style and first-class, creative photography don't want a bulky, plastic SLR spoiling their carefully crafted, personal look.

The new Nikon D810 is the revised D800
26th June 2014
Nikon has announced the successor to its highly successful Nikon D800 and it's called the D810. Outwardly very similar to its predecessor the D810 is an evolutionary rather than revolutionary release, the D810's main highlights include a wider ISO range selectable from 64 to 51200, implementation of the Expeed 4 image processir first seen in the Nikon D4S, faster shooting rates up to 7 frames per second, and the option of smaller RAW files using 12-bit data instead of 14-bits. By default the D810 is like the D800E in not having an optical low pass filter.

Hands-on preview of Sony's Cyber-Shot RX100 III
16th May 2014
A pop-up viewfinder, versatile LCD screen and wider zoom are just some of the RX100 III benefits In the face of plummeting compact camera sales caused by the boom in smartphones, many of which stream off Sony's own production lines, Sony launched the RX100 premium compact camera in the summer of 2012. Unusually for a compact, that original RX100 has proved a sales success and even remains on sale today, alongside the RX100 II launched last year and now the brand new RX100 III unveiled today.

Samsung launches the new NX Mini Smart Camera
19th March 2014
Samsung has unveiled a brand new mirrorless interchangeable lens system camera, or compact system camera, with the emphasis on 'compact'. Called the Samsung NX Mini, Samsung appears to be following in the wake of Nikon 1 and Pentax Q, both of whom have chosen to pursue the route of mirrorless system cameras sporting much smaller sensors than anyone else. With a smaller sensor you can build a really small camera with tiny lenses. Samsung has opted to go for the 1 inch sensor, which is the same size used by Nikon in the Nikon 1 system. This has a cropping factor of 2.7, so a lens of say, 50mm focal length on a standard full frame 135 format camera will have the same field of view as an 18.5mm NX Mini lens.

Nikon unveils D4s flagship pro DSLR
25th February 2014
Read the Nikon UK press release 53 image product gallery Nikon has officially launched its new flagship professional DSLR, the D4s, which replaces the D4 which was launched in January 2012. The D4 was a major addition to the Nikon line up and basically a new desigm from the ground up and it was welcomed enthusiastically by professional photographers who used the D4 to great effect at the London Olympics later the same year. The D4s is much more of a tidy-up of the D4; a subtle evolution and Nikon says the improvements to the camera are largely in response to customer-feedback.

Sony Alpha 6000 mirrorless system camera preview
12th February 2014
It looks like a NEX, but that branding is now officially finished and the new Sony Alpha 6000 goes some way to demonstrate why it's not a NEX. Gone is the characteristic NEX-style icon-based user-interface, replaced by the more conventional orange-keyed menus and function displays of other Alpha cameras.
