Olympus has announced a collection of new developments in its Micro Four Thirds Pen mirror-less interchangeable, or 'hybrid', Pen camera system. These include a new high power telephoto zoom, the m.Zuiko Digital 75-300mm ED f/4.8-5.6 (equivalent to 150-600mm) and m.Zuiko Digital 40-150 ED f/4-5.6 (equivalent to 80-300mm). There are also new Pen E-P2 kits featuring a black version of the m.Zuiko Digital 17mm pancake lens, previously only available in silver.

Mixed messages from Lowepro, the well known and respected manufacturer of camera bags, concerning the rules for its 'My Favorite Things' photography competition continue to attract criticism. Lowepro have asked us to publish a statement that they feel should clarify things, but we aren't so sure. So what do you think?

It's currently very fashionable to use extremely dark neutral density filters so you can use very long exposures in day time for special effects like smoothing the water surface turmoil of rivers, canals, lakes, etc., or for making the clouds in the sky look like they are racing past. There are expensive and cheap filters that can help you achieve this, but we look at a different strategy altogether; using a pair of polarising filters. Find out if it works.

Lowepro's newly-announced photography competition attracted controversy last week when a DPNow reader spotted that the competition rules appeared to lay huge claims on any photograph entered. We brought this to Lowepro's attention and the good news is that they have acknowledged the problem and promised to reassure photographers and have a re-think of the rules.

Panasonic Lumix has unveiled its summer collection of new camera models. There is nothing new from the G-Micro (Micro Four Thirds mirror-less interchangeable system or 'hybrid') range, but we do get the long-expected LX3 successor in the LX5. There are also two new superzoom bridge cameras, the FZ45 and the FZ100, the latter sporting an articulating LCD screen. There is the latest in Panasonic's long line in ultra compact cameras in the FX700, and finally we have a new tough/waterproof compact in the FT10. Found out what Panasonic has to lure you with.

We’ve had a bit of a treat today and enjoyed some hands-on time with pre-production samples of Nokia’s forthcoming N8 smartphone. It’s of particular interest to photographers because the N8 has an impressive camera specification for a smartphone. It has an autofocus 28mm (equivalent) wide angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, a ‘proper’ Xenon flash, and a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor. It's a big sensor for a camera phone too.
