How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
Mike Parr is today's featured Picture of the Day photographer. Mike is a frequent contributer to the DPNow discussion forum and photo gallery. The picture we have chosen was inspired by a recent recent photo contest on the DPNow forum:
"The picture was originally taken as an entry for the 'Family' salon competition, explains Mike. "The picture came about because, as usual, I had not got around to getting an entry ready. I managed to coerce those present to lay down for me... only after a lot of pleading with my wife and son.
Have a look at the picture. I certainly thought the picture was taken with the camera underneath, looking up. "I was looking for a different perspective and had tried a few positions before settling for this, I ended up with me standing on a chair looking down on them."
Mike decided that the colour original wasn't quite what he was looking for: "With only a couple of hours to go to the deadline the outcome was pleasing. Although this was shot in colour I decided that, due to using flash, being 8pm and indoors, I wasn’t happy with the effect and felt the image had more impact in B/W."
"I now know why they said “never work with children and animals” and your own can be the worst of all!"

Mike adds: "As a photographer I consider myself a true amateur, not having any particular style, I have an interest in horses and equestrian events and would like to produce more consistently good images in this area, combined with a greater technical knowledge.
"Being lucky to live in Cornwall , there are a vast amount of photography locations, which I hope to exploit these in the coming months and hope to post some entertaining and interesting photos."
