Welcome to the new DPNow camera reviews section. We are in the process of setting up a new, permanent, camera test studio that will help us to carefully control the test environment so benchtests can be of a consistent quality. This new facility will incorporate a full DO Labs DXO Analyzer set up to complement our previous use of the ISO PIMA electronic camera resolution test target and the Gretag Macbeth DC colour chart.
We have developed our own custom daylight-balanced halogen continuous lighting system, with excess near infra-red reduction, for controlled digital camera colour evaluation, as well as rigs for testing competence of low temperature tungsten and fluorescent light source auto white balance compensation in cameras.
Of course, any lab-based tests must be put into perspective with in-the-field sample photography and we both examine such test shots on-screen and by printing to various sizes using an Epson Stylus Photo 2100 A3 photo printer.
