Blue Reflect, by Jerry Segraves

:How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected

Jerry Segraves, who is better known as jerrysfoto on the DPNow discussion forum and photo galleries, is the photographer behind our featured in Picture of the Day today. Jerry has been featured on the DPNow POTD twice before.

Hailing from Kansas and enjoying a scenic commute past the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, Jerry gets plenty of opportunities for picture taking in a wild wetland setting.

"Blue Reflect was taken one evening after I had been photographing the sunset," explains Jerry, adding: "I was driving home and saw a puddle in a wheat field with a little stubble sticking up above the water.

"There was only a faint breath of wind and because the sun was long down, the blues were very impressive and serene!" It has to be noted that not all web browsers do the colour of the original justice, but the form of the subject, which resembles a stylised abstract fish, with no perceptible division to indicate the line of the water's surface, was well-spotted by Jerry.

Jerry adds: "I captured the scene with a Canon EOS 20D with a 100-400mm IS Lens and a bean bag rest on the car window.  f/5.6 360mm 1/125th of a second."

A versatile photographer, Jerry says: "I've been photographing for over 30 years and in addition to people, I love nature, outdoor and wildlife photography." More of Jerry's photography can be viewed at http://jerrysfoto.com. You can see Jerry's other work on his excellent DPNow gallery.
