Peder Winge, today's featured photographer on DPNow Picture of the Day, deserves a lot of praise. Peder, who is better known as pewidane on the DPNow discussion forum and photo galleries, has not just been delighting us with his photography but has persevered even though his English is probably not much better than my knowledge of his native Danish language!

Landscapes are Peder's primary interest, but the picture we have selected for today is more of an abstract architectural study. According to Peder: "I captured the scene with my old camera, a Panasonic DMC LC 5. My Nikon D70 has, unfortunately, been stolen. The picture is from the harbour in my city NYKØBING FALSTER in south Denmark."

I think you will agree that it's a very satisfying composition with the detailed structure of the winding staircase, at what appears to be a mass storage depot, blending beautifully with the starkness of the white sides of the storage tanks.

I am mostly interested in landscape,colour and composition. As usual, we like to find out some background to our featured photographers.. Peder says: "I've been photographing for 30 years as an amateur and I am 66 years old in a few days. I was born on 1st June 1941 in Sweden. My father was a Swedish and my mother Danish. I worked on the railway for 40 years as an engine driver and a am now retired, so I have a lot of time to photograph and I adore it."

Peder adds that big heroes in photography are Henry Cartier Bresson, Eugene Atget, and Andre Kertes.
