Wolf Horror, by Ben Durrant:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
Ben Durrant, who posts on the DPNow discussion forum and photo gallery under the name 'coupekid', started his involvement with DPNow as an enthusiastic beginner several years ago. Ben has used his enthusiasm to develop his great talent and has now become one of the most impressive regular posters, his pictures often characterised by his love of wildlife and, in particular, wolves.
If you have time, I strongly suggest you peruse Ben's gallery for more wolf shots, as well as birds of prey, cars (hence the user name!), and, more recently, doggie portraits. Ben is now a moderator on the DPNow forum.
The picture featured in today's POTD is a particularly scary, but effective, enhanced wolf portrait. Ben explains: "The picture was taken at the UK Wolf Sanctuary (www.ukwolf.org) on one of their photography days. I have obviously manipulated the photograph more for fun than anything else but also to reflect my love of horror films (particularly werewolves!"
The enhanced blood red areas, combined with the vignetting, works to give you the impression that this wolf has just had a snack and is eyeing the viewer as the main course!

Ben adds: I have been taking photographs for a few years now, and cut my teeth really when I stumbled accross DPNow (around 5years ago I think....I am sure Ian will correct me if I am wrong! At the time I was using a little CasioQV point and shoot, and now use a Canon 350D, and this particular shot was taken with a 300D at the long end of a Canon 75-300mm lens, (which I bought off Ian) I now consider myself as a serious hobbyist, and specialise in pet, and wildlife photography.
