Jo was on short holiday in Morocco during mid-October. The shot was taken in the Majorelle Gardens, a botanical garden in Marrakech. It was designed by the expatriate French artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924. The gardens are famous for providing a pleasant refuge from the heat and noise of the city. All sorts of colourful flora line the pathways that network gardens.
In amongst the plants can be found decorative teracotta jars and other, more colourful, pottery. Complemented by fish ponds, complete with trickling fountains are cooling pavilions. This is where Jo captured a simple scene that is transformed by deep pastel colours, including the famous 'Majorelle bleu'. The pattern projected by the sunshine works very well too.
After Majorelle died, Yves St Laurent acquired the gardens. Jo says: "I was immediately drawn to the shot due to the intensity and contrast of colours and shapes in the composition. I thought it would make striking picture and I'm pleased with the result."

Jo used a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P12, a compact five megapixel point and shoot digital camera, but a more serious camera is on the horizon: "I can't wait to get my first DSLR - positively busting a gut awaiting the Pentax K10D".
