David Morison delights us regularly with some stunning wild bird photography and today's POTD pick is actually one of a sequence of shots he recorded of a rare "Ringtail" Hen Harrier being mobbed by a crow. David explains: "It's a "Ringtail" Hen Harrier, probably juvenile male. A very rare raptor that now only nests in Scotland or N.Ireland having been driven from England by Grouse shooting interests (it nests on moorland). They come South in the Winter to Marshland and this one is at present frequenting my local reserve. I was alerted by the alarm call of a crow which flushed the Harrier from the reedbed and then harassed it for a few seconds, the Harrier then flew off over some willows. I only had about ten seconds to get any shots but managed eight in total with a Canon 7D and EF400mm f5.6, wide open and 1/1250th."
