EPSON ANNOUNCES WINNERS FOR DIGITAL VISION 2003

12th May 2003 - EPSON's Digital Vision 2003 competition reached its finale with the judging ceremony at EPSON headquarters in late April. Over160 camera clubs and professional photographers from the UK, Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Israel, Middle East and South Africa entered the competition.

Entrants to the competition were asked to submit an image that reflected 'locality'. The brief was intentionally broad, enabling photographers to interpret the theme in any way they chose.

Finalist judging took place within the UK and the panel included Lord Lichfield - professional photographer, Jon Tarrant - Editor of the British Journal of Photography, Kieran Potts - Editor of Photography Middle East, Jens Ole Steen Svendsen -Technical editor of Computer World, Denmark, Nick Butler - MD, EPSON UK, and Jane Barnard - Marketing communications manager, EPSON UK. After much scrutiny, two winners have been chosen.

The professional category winner of EPSON's Digital Vision 2003 competition is Michael Cohen from Israel, with the picture 'Burma'. His image depicts a rural scene, and was chosen for its composition, technical merit and relation to the theme.

Malahide camera club - Republic of Ireland is the camera club category winner of EPSON Digital Vision 2003, for the picture entitled 'Bill', taken by Peter Barriscale. The picture won for its interpretation of 'locality' combined with technical merit. Both category winners receive the award winning EPSON Stylus Pro 7600 24" large format printer.

With professional and camera club entries being judged separately, initially each country held its own judging to choose a winning image for each of these two categories. Both chosen images from each respective category and country were then submitted into the final round of judging.

Digital Vision 2003 was a chance for EPSON to unite photography enthusiasts from around the world through their unique experiences and visions of their communities. The standard and variety of the work submitted was highly impressive and is available to view via a link on the website www.photoexpert.epson.co.uk.

Nick Butler, MD of EPSON UK said "The competition has been a huge success. The level of entries received are evidence of the popularity of EPSON's Digital Vision competition, whilst the quality of pictures submitted has yet again amazed us. We hope that both camera clubs and professional photographers have enjoyed the experience of Digital Vision, and take pleasure in the recognition of the prestigious EPSON award."
