Epson brings Red Sea to Photokina 2010

First Full HD Live Broadcast of Epson Red Sea Underwater Event in Europe

Cologne, 21st September, 2010: Epson®, a world leader in projection technology and fine art imaging, will broadcast the Red Sea’s stunning biodiversity and marine landscape live, in Full HD, at Photokina 2010. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the highly dramatic and intensely colourful underwater world on a huge screen, during three broadcasts per day taking place between Tuesday, 21 and Thursday, 23 September.

Epson has a long standing connection to Red Sea conservation projects, including the Epson Red Sea competition, an international competition for underwater photographers that uses the power of great photography to highlight the beauty and fragility of this environment. It is one of a number of photography projects which also include the Wild Wonders of Europe, that Epson supports as part of its Environmental Vision 2050 commitment.

The first show, being screened on Tuesday 21 September will officially open the Red Sea stand at the largest photographic exhibition in the world. Besides a spectacular underwater exhibition presenting the most impressive photos from the Epson Red Sea competition, visitors can take part in a live interaction with the underwater broadcast team.

David Pilsof, producer of the Epson Red Sea event, held in Eilat, Israel, said in anticipation of the broadcast: “This exhibit and Full HD live broadcast is a unique opportunity to bring images of the stunning Red Sea to a wider audience. Sharp and colourful images, created using high-quality Epson projectors, and exciting underwater events will delight visitors and give them an impression of the beauty of underwater nature. That’s why we are happy and proud to work with Epson as professional imaging partner.”

Marco van Niekerk, Pro Graphics senior product manager at Epson, added: “The stunning colours, speed and movement of the underwater environment provide technical challenges that would test many firms, however, Epson’s high quality imaging products and innovative approach to technical development have enabled us to realise this vision. The Epson projector being used in Cologne brings the underwater environment to life with perfect colour contrast and image reproduction. This will be a fantastic spectacle for the show’s visitors.”

This November Epson will organise the sixth annual Epson Red Sea competition in Eilat, Israel. Integrating elements from the photography, high-tech, tourism and diving industries, Epson Red Sea is known worldwide as the international Underwater Olympics, with underwater photographers from all over the world attending this competition year after year.
