DPNow says: As with all photo competitions, DPNow urges all potential competitors to read the terms and conditions before entering their work in case a claim is made on the use or copyright of your pictures. Also, beware of any subsequent offers that ask you to pay for items that result from competitions before parting with any cash.

It’s time to get snapping and take photos of happy, healthy dogs to be in with the chance of becoming the Kennel Club’s Dog Photographer of the Year.

Crufts 2009 saw the official launch of the fifth annual Dog Photographer of the Year competition which is open to any dog enthusiast who has a camera and a genuine love of dogs.

The competition has four main categories for entries:

  • Dogs at Work
  • Dogs at Play
  • Dog Portrait
  • Man’s Best Friend

There is also a special category entitled ‘I love dogs because...’ which is open for children under the age of 16.

A winner will be announced for each of the categories, with an overall winner being chosen as the 2009 Dog Photographer of the Year.

The lucky winners will have their photographs displayed at London’s leading dog event, Discover Dogs on 14th and 15th November 2009 at Earls Court. The overall winning image will also be reproduced on the front cover of the December edition of the Kennel Club's flagship publication, the Kennel Gazette.

The winner of the Under 16’s category, along with their parent(s) or guardian will win a day out with professional dog photographer Marc Henrie.

Entry to the competition is now open and costs just £3.50, which covers up to four photos per person. Entry for the Under 16’s category is free of charge. Only one photo may be entered in each category and the same photo cannot be entered in more than one category. The competition closing date is 31st August 2009 and any profit will go directly to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust (Registered Charity Number 327802).
