The Pen E-PL1, worth £550, is the newest Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens hybrid camera from Olympus. A very lucky DPNow.com reader will win a Pen E-PL1 with its m.Zuiko 14-42mm standard zoom lens after our prize draw at the end of May.

With a 12 megapixel LiveMOS sensor, the Pen E-PL1 is sensitive enough to work well in low light, offering as high as ISO 3200 shooting, and 720P HD video recording is at your disposal, and through the use of the optional SEMA-1 external microphone adapter you can record a high quality stereo sound track. The E-PL1 boasts many of the advantages of a DSLR camera, but in a form factor that is a fraction of the size and weight. And you can choose to fit lenses from the growing Micro Four Thirds range, as well as hundreds of legacy lenses via adapters. If you would like a high resolution, flicker-free, electronic viewfinder, you can fit the optional VF-2. You also get a pop-up electronic flash, as well as dedicated hot shoe for external flash units and the E-PL1 can also wirelessly control one or more R-series flash units.

So the E-PL1 is a very capable, high specification, and yet compact and lightweight interchangeable lens camera - an ideal alternative to a DSLR if you want something lighter and smaller.

The E-PL1 is also an easy to use and stylish camera. You don't have to use technical menus and screens if you don't want to. Olympus has developed a set of simple controls reresented in easy to follow on-screen graphics. And there are Art Filters, which enable you to apply a range of great photo effects to both photos and video, in the camera. at the time of capture.
