It Ain't the Rain..., by Kurt Skeels:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
Today it's the turn of Kurt Skeels, or just plain Kurt, as you will find him on the DPNow discussion forum and photo galleries. Kurt's picture, which - to give it its full title: "It Ain't the Rain That Sweeps the Sidewalks Clean," is much more than a puddle of water. He entered the shot in the recent DPNow Salon contest with the theme of 'Reflections'.
Kurt, who hails from England's East Anglia, explains: "The actual image was captured in San Francisco during a very wet Christmas/New Year holiday. I previously entered it as a print into a set subject club competition where the title had to be a song title. It didn't succeed in impressing the judge!
"It remained pretty much as I had taken it until I posted it in DPNow Photo Critique where Tinka gave me some advice on cropping and curves which resulted in this image, an improvement on the original, in my view."

Modesty becomes Kurt: "I am very much an amateur snapper, although I have been taking photographs on and off since I was about nine years old, when I was given a VP twin pocket camera, you would have to be pretty old to remember these which were sold mainly in Woolworth for about five of our old shillings!
"Since then I have worked my way through a number of cameras up to my present Nikon D70, with which I took this picture. I am addicted to images featuring reflections and sculpture and this succeeded in satisfying both addictions!"
