How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected

Peder Winge, more familiarly known as Pewidane on the DPNow discussion forum and photo galleries, is best known for his striking landscape photography, particularly around the island of where Peder lives, Falster, in the south of his native Denmark.

This time, Peder's keen eye has captured a jeweller's shop window, in the capital of Falster, Nykøbing Falster. The display in the window features a picture of a model wearing items of jewellery. The composition and near life-like appearance of the model adds up to a fascinating quality about the picture. Muted reflections in the glass of the window add to the experience.

Peder explains: "The picture is from Nykøbing falster city where I live (south Denmark). I am mostly interested in landscape, colour and composition. "I've been photographing for 30 years as an amateur. I am 66 years old and retired. I am always carrying a camera and lens, normally a Panasonic DMC-LC5. My former camera was a leica M2 and a 50mm lens."

Peder adds: "I point my camera everywhere. I have no pretentions about making "great art". I am more interested in depicting facts than inventing fiction. Whether the practitioner uses small, medium or large format equipment, or whether his concerns and interest are botanical, animal, people, landscape or street life, etc.,the only relevance is the photograph itself. The pleasure of good photographs are whatever are the particulars of their make up."
