Fire in the Hearth, by Jo Connor:

How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected

Jo Connor can be found in the DPNow discussion forum and photo gallery as 'JoJo'. Jo has recently returned from a trip to South America and the Andes mountains. We're certainly going to enjoy the pictures from her trip soon in her gallery, but in the mean time, her image of a flames from a burning log fire will suffice for today's DPNow picture of the day.

When asked about her potd image, before she left for South America, Jo replied: "It seems such a long time ago now that I took the pictures of the burning logs - what with the blossom now putting in an appearance!

"Anyway, I was looking for a subject for Bearface's Salon theme, "timeless" (yes, now that did have everyone scratching their heads, didn't it!) I was sat staring into the flames of our wood burner one night thinking about our then forthcoming holiday to South America and figured that the burning logs would fit the salon theme.

"So, with my hallowed new L-series lens and camera perched on a chair I shot away trying a variety of both shutter and aperture priorities. I had to keep adding logs and allowing the fire to increase in intensity every so often before opening the glass-fronted door in order to shoot. This one, I thought, had the most striking appearance and I particularly like the sense of movement. I added the thin blue border to complement the hues in the flames."
