Andrew Thatcher's, slightly haunting hybrid mono and colour picture, titled 'Red Riding Hoodie' and re-jigged as 'Little Red Riding Hoodie' by me, is the focus of today's POTD.
Andrew is a long time DPNow visitor and has been interested in photography since the 80s. The little person that is the subject of Andrew's shot is actually his cousin's son. Andrew says: "It was taken while on a walk in their local park, he was heading off ahead of us to get to the play area so I took a few frames as I liked the framing of the trees around him.
"When I got back home to look at the shots the area at the end of the path was too busy in colour as it had all the colours of the play area confusing the image. So I made the image B&W. I thought it would be good if I kept the red of his top so using Photoshop I kept the red in the image."
If you aren't from the UK, 'hoodies' have a slightly sinister reputation because of adolescent troublemakers who hide their identities by wearing hooded tops. The innocence of the little guy (Andrew's first cousin once removed, I am reliably informed!) is, of course, undisputed but this fact juxtaposed with the 'hoodie' garb and reference and the mono treatment of the rest of the image adds up to a rather wondrous image.

The photography business has been a part of Andrew's working life, but after a studio he was working for went out of business, life took him in a different direction for a few years. The emergence of digital photography in the late 90s rejuvenated Andrew's interest in photography and, in his own words: "I could do all the work without all the smells of the darkroom!"
