Stylish Design Combines with Impressive Performance in the New HP Deskjet 5740
Versatile, high productivity printer designed for reliable operation and easy switchover to photo printing
LONDON, UK, 12 August 2004. HP today announced the launch of the HP Deskjet 5740, a compact, robust and competitively priced inkjet printer offering high productivity printing and easy operation via front panel controls. In addition, this highly versatile and distinctively styled printer can also be used to produce long-lasting, professional-quality photos.
Making use of HP’s next generation of inkjet print cartridges, featuring a new printhead design with double the previous nozzle density , print speeds are up to 26 pages per minute in laser-quality black and up to 18 pages per minute in colour. Designed for printing everything from letters, projects, business materials and e-mail to high quality colour photos, this printer is ideal for anyone looking for fast, reliable performance in a stylish-looking printer.
Complementing this impressive everyday performance is the ability to produce outstanding quality colour photos, with up to 4800-optimised dpi colour and optional 6-ink printing for virtually grain-free photos (with the separate purchase of the HP No. 348 photo inkjet print cartridge). Photos can be printed with or without borders in all the most popular formats including 10 x 15 cm, 13 x 18 cm large snapshot size, A4, 10 x 30 cm panorama and double A4 (21 x 59.4 cm). HP’s new generation inks also ensure that photos have excellent resistance to fading , particularly when printed on the specially designed HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, a 280 g/m2 stock with the look and feel of traditional photos. HP Premium Plus Photo Paper is available in high-gloss or satin-matt finish and a range of sizes including new pre-cut 10 x 30 cm panorama size and 13 x 18 large snapshot size (from 1 September 2004).
While flexibility is central to the appeal of this competitively priced printer, the HP Deskjet 5740 has also been designed to deliver real ease-of-use and simple print management. The printer itself features an integrated control panel which incorporates a one-touch print cancel button – eliminating the need to go through the software to stop unwanted jobs – and an ink status display which alerts users when ink levels are running low. If ink does run out and no replacement cartridge is immediately available, an innovative print back-up mode instructs the remaining cartridge to continue printing where the depleted cartridge left off.
Other user-friendly features include an automatic paper type sensor which optimises print settings according to the type of paper being used. The HP Deskjet 5740 comes with HP Photo Printing software which, as well as providing access to a range of more advanced print controls, also allows easy management, editing, correcting and sharing of photos.
The HP Deskjet 5740 comes complete with the HP No. 339 black inkjet print cartridge for laser-quality sharp black text and the HP No. 343 tri-colour inkjet print cartridge to produce vivid colours for vibrant colour documents, charts and presentations. Both these print cartridges come in different sizes for greater choice.
For ultimate creative control customers can also purchase other inkjet print cartridges from the range and swap them in so they have the right set of inks available for their print job. Inkjet print cartridges not in use can be stored in a print cartridge protector, supplied with the photo cartridge box, to ensure the inks don’t dry out. When printing photos users can combine the HP No. 343 / 344 tri-colour inkjet print cartridge along with the HP No. 348 photo inkjet print cartridge for true-to-life photos with accurate skins tones and a wide range of colours.
The HP Deskjet 5740 is available from September 2004 at a recommended street price of £79 (actual prices may vary).
