New HP Photo Paper Sizes Challenge Traditional Photography

Latest formats make digital home photo printing a whole new experience

LONDON, 12 August 2004; HP today announces new additions to its successful photo print media portfolio, allowing consumers even greater variety in their home photo printing. The new formats enhance HP’s Premium Plus Photo Paper, high-gloss, range with two new sizes: 10 x 30 cm specially designed for borderless panoramic prints and 13 x 18 cm borderless, ideal for larger snapshot size photos. In addition, HP’s Premium Photo Paper, glossy, range has been enhanced with a new borderless 10 x 15 cm size, perfect for snapshots without the need for tear-off tabs.

Enabling panoramic digital photography
HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, high-gloss, is now available in 10 x 30 cm panoramic size. The new size allows consumers to experience the impressive world of panoramic photo prints. Ideal for beautiful landscapes and city skylines, this leads home photo printing into a whole new area. The paper is available in convenient packs of 20 sheets.

The introduction of this new panoramic format photo paper also supports the launch of the HP Photosmart R707 digital camera. This new HP camera is the first digital camera on the market to provide a true panoramic preview within the camera. In order to print the image, the sections of the panoramic photos are automatically stitched together using HP Instant Share and HP Image Zone technology.

The new photo paper format is specifically designed to work with a variety of new printers that support full borderless panoramic printing. These include the HP Deskjet 5740 Colour Inkjet Printer and the HP Deskjet 6540 Colour Inkjet Printer, the HP Photosmart 8150 Photo Printer, the HP Photosmart 8450 Photo Printer and HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One as well as the HP Deskjet 6840 Colour Inkjet Printer and the HP Photosmart 2710 All-in-One.(1)
Larger sized snapshots at a touch of a button

The new 13 x 18 cm size HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, high-gloss, enables consumers to select their favourite images and print in a larger snapshot size, perfect for displaying digital photos in a frame. This is a convenient and cost effective way for consumers to produce high-quality images without having to order enlargements from a photo-processing lab. The 13 x 18 cm size is available in packs of 20 sheets.

HP Premium Plus Photo Paper continues to deliver outstanding image quality, the look and feel of traditional photos and exceptional light fade resistance.(3)

(2) Tests conducted by Wilhelm Imaging Research, with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper on a HP Photosmart 7960 Photo Printer delivered fade resistance of up to 73 years with colour printing (using the HP No. 57 and No. 58 Inkjet Print Cartridges) and 115 years for black and white images (using the HP No. 59 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge).

Results of early internal HP testing indicate that the new HP inkjet print cartridges for 3 and 4-ink colour photos printed on HP Premium Plus Photo Paper should resist fading longer than with previously introduced HP 6 and 8-ink printing systems. Fade resistance tests with the new HP inkjet print cartridges for 6 and 8-ink colour photo printing are in progress with Wilhelm Imaging Research. Based on internal HP test results, HP is confident that colour photos printed on HP Premium Plus Photo Paper will resist fading longer than with previously introduced 6 and 8-ink printing systems.

Internal HP testing show that black and white photos printed with the new HP No. 100 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge will yield the same excellent fade resistance as the HP No. 59 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge (introduced in 2003).
