It's mid-week here on the DPNow.com Picture of the Day and markburslem's shot of a Bentley racing car from 1930 conveys the raw energy of what is a true leviathan. The chassis is a 1930 Bentley but a massive V12 42 litre Packard engine has been transplanted from a World War II US PT (Patrol Torpedo) boat. These boats each used three of these engines! Apparently the V12 can generate no less than 1,500 horse power. Taken at a Silverstone meeting in 2011, Mark's shot shows 12 exhaust pipes but there are another 12 on the other side as each cylinder has two exhausts thanks to the twin-port cylinder head design. As you can see this engine, literally, spits fire.
