Peter comes from a family of keen photographers in the Channel Islands. Peter has been doing a lot of portraiture recently and today's Digital Photography Now Picture of the Day pick is charming portrait taken at Peter's camera club. Peter explains:
"We as a club were asked if we wanted to use a pro studio set up so a few of us went along to see what it was all about." I had though the shot might have been a mixture of natural light and flash, but I was wrong: "No, it shot in a studio with flash, one softbox right of the camera, with a bit of light bounced in from the left. There was around 7 to 8 of us on the night so it really was a case of just getting a few shots and then letting someone else have a go."
What captivated me about Peter's shot is the lovely expression on the model's face. It's a happy and slightly cheeky look that shows she is relaxed and enjoying the experience. I hope Peter won't mind me critiquing his image, but I would have narrowed the right hans side to reduce the area of shoulder and arm in the frame, which competes for attention in the overall composition. But this is a minor niggle; it's that great expression that makes the shot and overall I'm sure both Peter and the model are very pleased with the end result.
