Specsavers searches for Amazing Partnerships UK-wide
South Yorkshire MP David Blunkett is lending his support to a nationwide photography competition to find pictures that illustrate an amazing partnership.
The photography competition has been launched by Specsavers in partnership with Pentax Cameras, to raise awareness of Guide Dogs, Specsavers’ national charity partner, and the vital role it plays in matching guide dogs with their owners.
Guide Dogs supporter, David Blunkett MP, says: ‘I've first-hand experience of how valuable each of my guide dogs has been. As an aid to mobility, as a support in providing independence and as a companion, they have provided for me the opportunity to work and live on equal terms with others. Quite simply, a guide dog for many blind people is a liberation and an essential aid in building the confidence that we all need to live our lives to the full.’
The competition is open to everyone who wants to showcase an amazing partnership, such as an act of kindness, a helping hand or a sign of encouragement. It can either be between friends, family or even between pets and their owners. Entrants are encouraged to let their imagination run wild and show their creativity to represent their own area at the national exhibition in London. The closing date for entries is Friday 8 October.
A total of 10 regional winners will be selected to win a Pentax Digital SLR (KX Digital SLP) camera worth more than £500 and a £150 worth of Specsavers vouchers. Each winner, plus one guest, will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to London to attend the press launch of the Amazing Partnerships exhibition by renowned photographer Adrian Houston, at the Haunch of Venison Gallery, where each winning image will be on display.
Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins says: ‘We are delighted that David Blunkett has chosen to support our Amazing Partnerships photography competition and help us highlight the work that Guide Dogs carry out each and every day. We hope that through this activity we can not only help people who suffer from sight loss but also educate children and young people about the importance of eye health and so prevent sight loss before it happens.’
