Local Rotherham resident wins national prize in Jet’s local life photography competition
Winning photo above: Andrew Coe - Rotherham Show
Local Rotherham resident Andrew Coe has won the national first prize in the Jet Local Life photography competition. His photograph of the Rotherham Show was chosen by the judges, out of hundreds of entries to win the regional heat, and then beat the seven other finalists to win the national prize.
The Jet Local Life competition was designed to encourage people to capture what they love about their local area through the camera lens. The competition was less about photographing a local landmark and more about capturing the spirit of the local community or region.
Andrew Coe has already received his regional heat prize of £250.00 and a block-mounted image of his winning photograph. He can now claim an all-expenses-paid weekend to London or York including a training session with a professional photographer, travel, accommodation and spending money.
Leading photographer Bob Miller, the chief competition judge, said of the award-winning photograph, “There is a real sense of anticipation and emotion about this image. It has great composition - the kestrel looks like it is putting on the breaks to stop, and this, combined with the hesitancy of the boy in the red shirt and the yellow splash of colour in the background made this the best image in the competition”.
Tony Conway, marketing manager at Jet added, “At Jet we have always prided ourselves on being part of the community in towns and villages, and Andrew Coe’s stunning photograph really captured the soul of his local area. We would like to congratulate him for winning our national prize.”
