Mike Cork, who goes by the user name of Mike on the DPNow discusssion forum and galleries has dedicated his Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (EOS-350D) to infra red photography. It's a modified camera, having had its 'hot mirror' infra red filter, which is a standard fitment on ordinary digital cameras, covering the image sensor, replaced by an infra red transparent filter.
The advantage of this is that there is no need for special dark red filters that are often used with unmodified cameras. Exposures don't have to be laboriously long and the reflex viewfinder is perfectly usable.
Mike's study of this chapel ruin in Ireland is just one example of how effective and attractive good infra red photography can be.
