Philip James Filia, who goes by the user name of pjphoto on the DPNow discusssion forum and galleries, is a pro based in San Diego, California, the second California-based photographer to be featured on the DPNow Picture of the Day in successive days. Don't miss yesterday's for anything! The subject of today's POTD is coastal New England, on the other side of the USA to Philip's Sand Diego base. There is a rather special warmth about the scene, with the golden sands in agreement with a complementary sky. The framing of the old fence, sinking into the sand, adds great perspective, too. There is no exif data on the image in Philip's gallery, but maybe he can fill us in on the shooting set up later on the forum.
"This photo was taken back in early July 2007," says Philip. He continues: "My yearly trek to Provincetown on the very tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts has made me very familiar with the town and landscape. Wanting to get something a little different this year, I decided to focus on the quieter side of Provincetown and try to capture the beauty less seen by the many tourists who come to town for the shops and nightlife.
"This shot was taken close to sunset, when the light "happens". I was delighted after reviewing the shoot that evening that despite the simplicity of the scene there was a certain something about this particular photo that made me say, 'that's a keeper!'
