We've had quite a few POTDs from Stephen Anstey over the months and here is another from one of the DPNow mini meets that he and Tim Johnstone (Bearface) regularly embark on. This time they were joined by Andrew Thatcher, whose recent POTD of a bronze stature we featured. The trio's destination was Bamburgh and Lindisfarne, in north east England. The shot selected today is one taken of Lindisfarne castle, on the island of Lindisfarne that is only connected to the mainland when the tide is out. It was early when they reached their destination and the weather wasn't great, but the sun showed itself in time for this shot.

Stephen says: "I'm often asked how I achieved the star burst effect with the sun in this shot. All I did was use a neutral density gradient filter."

To be honest, this is just one of many pictures from Tim and Andrew that we could have featured on POTD today. There is an excellent discussion thread on the DPNow discussion forum all about the trip and a special section in the DPNow photo galleries containing shots taken by Stephen, Tim and Andrew - don't miss these!

A little about the photographer

Stephen is a former teacher but is now an experienced freelance photographer based in Wakefield, Yorkshire. Stephen's first digital SLR was a Nikon D1, but he's since switched camps to Canon, first with a EOS-20D and now with an EOS-1D Mark IIn. Stephen likes nothing better, or so it seems!, than to get out into the countryside in the early hours, in all weathers, to get the special post-dawn light. When he's not doing that he's usually spotted online generally assisting and encouraging everyone on the DPNow forum in his role as chief moderator.

Visit Stephen's gallery to see a wide selection of his excellent and varied photography.
