  • Banburgh & Lindisfarne (Member meet)

We got some great shots this morning, unfortunately the sun never rose in that part of the world, well it was hidden by cloud is nearer the truth However, downhearted we were not and still managed to be creative and work with what we had. We were on the beach at Bamburgh at around 4am and by around 5.30 we were on our way for some breakfast.

At 8am were parked up on Lindisfarne or Holy Island, and again managed to find lots to photograph and be creative with.

A new gallery has been created HERE and we will add photos to it as we get them processed, so keep looking in over the next few days.

All three of us managed to create very different style of images, Andrew for example seemed to concentrate on bracketing his shots so he could create HDR photos, whilst I experimented to good effect with some ND Grad filters. Tim likes to do it the hard way, but rest assured he has some stunning shots.

Here is one of mine just to whet your appetite

and this one of Andrews is I think a brilliant HDR shot

I like both shots but I got to say the castle and wall is superb I could look at that all day, sometimes you look at a picture to find something you like, others like this, you like instantly, within a second of seeing it
    look forward to more

      Stephen,
just gone back to you post and had a really close look at it, (on a 15" laptop. the waves are smooth and the lights stand out, creating a soft pleasent view.

Yes the 2 sec exposure has the effect of softening the waves. Wasn't sure about the lights on the castle at first, they went off around 04.40. However in retrospect I quite like them now. Just uploaded another that thow them better.

The great thing about these jaunts is that you can focus on what you are doing for the duration, without having to worry about others who are not so interested in what you are doing. No getting left behind, no playing catchup. You just concentrate on what you are doing and getting the best pics you can. That and of course the company of like minded people

Your right there Stephen, I tend to go with my wife for company, although shes patient with me I feel pressured into making the photography second to the other events of the day, (not her fault I hasten to add), I think it must be hard to watch someone fiddling and tweaking for that perfect shot, Its nice to see what can be achieved when likeminded folk get together for a day.
Hopefully you will inspire further meets around the country where others can meet and express themselves photographically

I visited Holy Island a few years back and your comments have really stirred up my memory bank.
It's truly beautiful area. These two pics are both stunning in every way. As for those lights, I think they really enhance the shot.
Off to view the others now

The HDR b/w, the one with the stone wall + castle, really hits the spot for me! It's wonderful - Bamburgh in all its glory within the surrounding layout of land and sea.

                  10/10 for that one, Andrew.

Some good stuff in the gallery so far - my fav has to be IMG_1094a but I may revise that later! (I'm assuming there's more to come).

There certainly is Stuart, no doubt Tim will have some sorted for tomorrow, and I have several more to come yet.

These shots of Lindisfarne Castle were inspired by the work of Joe Cornish

They're all good - and at least you got some sun.... didn't appear here until 7pm, then it was very short-lived

Been off to the gallery - well impressed. So far, I'd agree with StuartR with 1094A being my favourite, tho that one you've just posted of Lindisfarne is also a cracker, beautiful colours and definition and love the sky.

A question - how do you get the sun like that? If I try (as I did last weekend at Baddesley Clinton) I just got overexposure.

Fantastic. How do you get the sun to give that star shape?
