After a break, the DPNow Picture of the Day (POTD) returns today, published weekdays.
Andrew Thatcher wields a Nikon D200 - to great effect. He's a firm favourite on the DPNow discussion forum and photo galleries. Today's feature shot was taken during the recent DPNow readers outing to Oxford, the historic English university city. You can see a gallery of the day's photography, by the way. Andrew came straight off his night shift in Birmingham and arrived in Oxford in the early hours and was rewarded with the softness of the early morning summer light. The statue being off-set to the right, with the de-focused tombstones in the background forms a well-balanced composition. There is some vignetting in the frame, but this also complements the view.
Quite a few of us on the trip photographed this bronze statue of the monk, but I feel Andrew produced by far the best result. And anyway, without his knowledge of its location, hidden off a side street in a church yard, I doubt many of us would have spotted it. It's only visible through some iron gate railings. The statue being off-set to the right, with the de-focused tombstones in the background forms a well-balanced composition. There is some vignetting in the frame, but this also complements the view. So, well done Andrew! Visit Andrew's gallery to see a wide selection of his excellent photography.
