DPNow Photo Fix Challenge 2 results

Revealed: the winners and runners up for the second DPNow Photo Fix Challenge

The results of the second DPNow Photo Fix Challenge are now in. If you need to be reminded of the challenge, have a look at the original challenge article and also the short list line-up of entries.

This time we have selected winners for best technical improvement, plus best artistic interpretation. We have a second time winner and a win for a previous runner up!

Best technical improvement

For the second consecutive time, it’s the work of Richard Cano, from San Francisco:

Richard’s win from last time was, to some, a little controversial as he made an imaginative re-work of the scene rather than just enhancing the donor image as it was. But this time, Richard has done a straightforward job of lifting the donor image out of its high contrast, dark shadows and burned highlights imbalance. If you look at the short list gallery I think you will agree with me that that it was a pretty close call with several other entries. If you don’t agree with the result, all I can say is – did you vote?

Runner up was, Ben Durrant ('coupekid'), a very familiar name on the DPNow forum. Ben’s result was maybe a touch too saturated compared to Richard’s, but a fine attempt, nonetheless.

Best artistic interpretation

Runner up last time out, Ron Clarke ('lumix') can be well satisfied with his win in the artistic interpretation category:

Ironically, Richard edged Ron out of the first challenge through his imaginative interpretation of the challenge. This time it’s Ron that has been the creative winner, with his ghostly conversion.

And the runner up in this category is Sue Longrigg, also very well known as 'sfl' on the DPNow forum. Again, it was very close and Sue’s isolation of the lad in the photo is nicely done.

Thanks again to all who entered and voted. There will be another challenge soon – if a picture that has potential for rescuing in a future challenge, get in touch using the Feedback button on this page.
