Dandelion Clock, by David Taylor:

How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected

See the previous POTD from Monday, 25th Dec.

After a short Christmas and New Years break, the DPNow Picture of the Day competition returns with this low angle view of a traditional dandelion clock, taken by David Taylor, better known by his user name 'Tazzat' on the DPNow forum and gallery.

The dandelion seed head blends in niceley with the sky, which is speckled with clouds that seem to have originated from the flower itself.

David explains: "It was taken in my garden on the 25th May 2006. The sky was reminiscent of dandelion 'parachutes' blowing in the wind. I photographed the 'clock' with the sun directly behind it to give a dramatic effect.

"I used some diffused fill-in flash to lighten the stalk and slightly darken the background." David used a Sony DSC F717 and confesses to be eagerly awaiting the purchase of his first DSLR: ".. when the Sigma SD14 makes its appearance in March 2007 - hopefully."

With an honours degree in Plant Science from the University of Liverpool, it's not surprising that David's photo gallery is dominated by flowers and close-ups of interesting plants, including a parasitic mistletoe seedling - and it really does look like it has three green toes!

Are you up to the task of being selected for the DPNow POTD? All you need to do is exhibit your pictures on the free DPNow photo gallery and maybe we'll be in touch!
