Castle Point Lighthouse, by Trevor White:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected
See the previous POTD from Tuesday, 19th Dec.
A dramatic New Zealand sky dominates today's DPNow Picture of the Day from, Trevor White, or, if you like, 'Kiwi Trevor' - as he is known on the DPNow forum, 'ddigit'. Don't let some minor technical imperfections spoil one's appreciation of the image, overall. Yes there is some 'glowing' around the top of the lighthouse and some unexplained patches in the sky, but filter that out and you get a great sky and an interesting foreground. And the picture is nicely presented and titled.
Trevor explains: "The photo was taken at 3pm in our Autumn with a Panasonic FZ20." That makes two FZ20-user in a row, with Ron's POTD yesterday."
Adds Trevor: "My wife and I were travelling back to the South Island and diverted to see Castlepoint area (I was brought up in a town 60 miles inland but never got to see the lighthouse)."
"The location is on the lower east coast of North Island, New Zealand. The area is notorious - many people have been swept off the rocks while fishing, and of course the lighthouse serves as a warning to shipping."

Trevor recently retired and this has provided a lot more time for taking pictures. "Photography has always been an interest but I now have time to become really involved. In my previous job I started with using a Linhoff 5X4 black and white to record fingerprints. The fingerprint section later used a variety of cameras over the years and finally started using digital about 3 years before I left."
"I personally started with a Panasonic FZ20 (fantastic lens) and also have a Nikon 8800. For Christmas I have got a Nikon D80 with an AF-S Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. Of course I have started using it and love the handling and results.
Have started shooting in RAW and use workflow techniques with Photoshop."
There is plenty more to see from Trevor, both in his gallery and on the DPNow forum. Are you up to the task of being selected for the DPNow POTD? All you need to do is exhibit your pictures on the free DPNow photo gallery and maybe we'll be in touch!
