A frosty sunrise on the dunes, by Roger Leale:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected See the previous POTD from yesterday, Tuesday, 21st Nov.
Vote for November's Picture of the Month
Sometimes one sees a picture that really makes you wish you had been there to experience the scene for yourself.
Roger Leale's Picture of the Day is exactly that sort of picture.
Roger, a retired aircraft engineer and who has been living in Finistère for 14 years, took the picture at sunrise at the dunes of L'Aber, which is on the coast of the Finistère region in Brittany, France.
I had a bit of job to persuade Roger to let me feature the picture on POTD: "Maybe you shouldn't use that picture because it is a cheat, and I don't think it's a very good one, " he said, explaining: "The original sky was so blown out I had to replace it with a sky taken on another day."
So what? The final effect is beautiful, if a little utopian and it serves to demonstrate just what is possible with a little imagination and ingenuity with the format of digital.
Roger added: "I used a Nikon D70 in aperture priority and raw with the kit lens."

Later, Roger revealed that despite his combination of two different pictures not being "a very good one,"
it's a very special picture: "I must admit it is one of my favourites, especially as my lovely doberman in the picture died of a heart problem shortly afterwards."
What a way to remember a cherished pet; it's magical.
I hope Roger will build on the two pictures, at the time of writing, in his
gallery here on DPNow.
