Students release photography podcast

Release Issued by University of Westminster:

Students at the University of Westminster have joined the likes of Ricky Gervais and Tony Blair this week by releasing their own podcast.

London Photocast– thought to be one of the first podcasts to be released by a university in the UK – is developed by students on the BA Photographic Arts course to promote their end of year degree show to be held at the Atlantis Gallery in London’s Brick Lane in June.

Each week the students will release a five-minute broadcast profiling a different photographer taking part in the exhibition. The series of interviews will be recorded live at the Tate Modern and hosted by television presenter Opal Bonfante.

An enhanced version of the series will also be available to those using video iPods, which will allow listeners to view images referred to in the programmes.

Nick Hall, a student on the course as well as the co-presenter and producer of travel podcast iPod Traveller, believes that podcasts are an ideal medium through which to promote the exhibition.

“Podcasts are rapidly becoming one of the most successful forms of mass communication readily available to students on a tight budget,” he said.

“Hopefully each podcast will reach a much wider audience then we could usually hope for with an end of year show. Each programme should give listeners a taste of what they can expect to see at the summer exhibition and encourage more people to attend.”

The first two episodes are now available and feature interviews with Nathan Coyte, discussing his work with up and coming band, The Far Cries and Cath Meade, talking about her work documenting the controversial campaign group, Fathers for Justice.

New programmes are released every Wednesday and can be subscribed to by adding the following link to a podcast reader:
