BEDS STUDENTS REACH FINALS OF NATIONAL AWARDS
Photography and Graphic Design students from the University of Bedfordshire have reached the finals of prestigious national awards this week.
Alison Francis and Shasta Parveen were finalists at the Penguin Design Awards for their elaborate designs of the book covers to Zadie Smith’s On Beauty and Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine.
Photography students Radu Tudoroiu and Pavel Davodenko made the final 25 of the documentary category at the Signature Photography Awards.
Pavel’s photo captures a pigeon in Soho and Radu’s shows broken chairs in a pathway leading to a church in Romania. Their work is currently being displayed at The Empire Gallery in East London.
Head of the School of Media, Art & Design Tony Eddison said: “We’re really proud of all the students who reached the finals of such distinguished awards, which highlights the gifted and talented individuals we have studying at the University and shows our School is among the best in the country.”
Last month Graphic Design student Brett Wilson was commended in the 2008 Annual Design and Art Direction Student Awards for a website he designed which deals with school bullying.
Ana Skopinska was also commended by Young Creatives Network (YCN) for her design work on a brief for the BBC's Culture Show. She will feature in the YCN show in London in August.
And Media Production graduate and up-and-coming film maker Aliakbar Campwala is screening Kurdish film SZA, which translates as ‘Pain’, at the Exodos Short Film Festival in Manchester on 18 June.
The film deals with the conflict between the older and younger generation of Kurdish refugees in England. Aliakabar was involved as screenplay writer, editor and assistant director.
