ICI Imagedata announces winners of Olmec Student Digital Photographer
of the Year Awards 2004
The winners of the Olmec Student Digital Photographer of the Year were presented with their awards at a prestigious ceremony at ICI’s headquarters in London.
Launched three years ago by ICI Imagedata, the competition is open to students studying photography as part of a college or university course. As one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of digital imaging products – including the Olmec range of photo inkjet papers – ICI Imagedata was keen to encourage and reward up and coming photographic talent, as well as promoting digital imaging.
The competition once again attracted a large number of entries from over 100 different colleges, including many striking and imaginative images. This year there were two new Award Categories – FASHION and REPORTAGE – in addition to PEOPLE, PLACES and STILL LIFE, as well as a special award for DIGITAL MANIPULATION.
THE WINNERS
The overall winner of the 2004 Olmec Student Digital Photographer Competition was Elaine Ryan, a third year student at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology – also the winning college in 2003.
Category Winners were:
PEOPLE – Elaine Ryan, Dun Laoghaire
PLACES – Malcolm Menzies, Edinburgh
STILL LIFE - Edward Cowling, Falmouth
FASHION – Richard Wright, Sandwell
REPORTAGE – Sarah Willoughby, Hull
DIGITAL MANIPULATION – Beverley Hyslop, Reid Kerr
THE PRIZES
Over £3,000 in Cash plus photographic accessories
All Category Winners were awarded with £250 cash plus a selection of photographic accessories including Lowepro Compu Trekker bags and Manfrotto tripods.
The overall winner was presented with an additional £2,000 cash plus tripod and lighting equipment from Paterson Photographic – UK distributor of the Olmec range of photo papers.
The winning college was presented with £500 worth of Olmec™ imaging products.
Permanent Showcase – BAA Gallery, Heathrow
In a recent development, hundreds of images from the Olmec Student Competition are being showcased in a unique gallery at Heathrow Terminal 2.
Thanks to a collaboration between BAA and ICI Imagedata, the gallery is promoting new talent and creating a stimulating, attractive environment for departing passengers.
