Olmec Student Digital Photographer Competition Takes Off With BAA

Student Award Photographs form unique gallery at Heathrow

In an exciting new development, images from ICI Imagedata’s Olmec Student Digital Photographer of the Year Competition – now in its third successful year – are showcased at a unique gallery at Heathrow Airport.

The competition, which is open to all students studying photography as part of their college or university courses, was initially launched by ICI Imagedata to promote the creative use of digital technology to new photographers and has generated a large number of striking images.

Now, students taking part in the competition will have the opportunity to present their work in a prestige setting to an International audience. The Gallery, which is displayed at Heathrow Terminal 2, features up to 200 student photographs, including shortlisted and winning images.

Heathrow is the world’s busiest airport with 90 airlines departing to 170 destinations. Terminal 2 caters for international and European flights – with more than 14,000 travellers passing through every day of the year.

The Gallery is the result of a collaboration between three of the UK’s leading businesses – ICI, BAA and Service Point – with a shared objective of promoting up and coming talent.

Neil Solender, BAA Departures Product Manager, said. “We are delighted to be involved in such an exciting project . We are not only complementing our travellers’ journey with a display striking, innovative images, we are also helping to support an arts-based educational project.”

Ken Dowling, ICI Imagedata Managing Director added, “This gallery introduces the Olmec Student Competition to a audience of the most influential business travellers in the world, offering student photographers an outstanding opportunity to present their work.”

Michael Barton-Harvey, Service Point Marketing Director concluded, “BAA T2 asked Service Point, in recognition of its unique global reach plus Digital Reprographics and Document Management services on T5 , to provide a concept that would engage passengers utilising T2 when passing through the terminal. The obvious solution was to complement the building’s strong internal environment as a backdrop for vibrant imagery – ensuring what was on show was unique in terms of graphics and quality whilst introducing subject matter never seen before. The prestigious Olmec Student Competition was the obvious way forward, bringing together three organisations committed to supporting up and coming talent.”
