Sony reveals NEW digital photo printing system

Photokina-2099The New High-Speed photo printing system presents a breakthrough for self-service digital photo processing for retailers

28th September 2004 – At Photokina, Sony Europe launches its new Digital photo printing system (Print Station–150) which is based on the new UP-DR150 High-Speed digital photo printer and the New digital photo Input terminal (PhotoGenie - UPA-PC150). This system establishes Sony as the leader in the photofinishing solution market. Sony’s solution enables retailers to offer their customers a simple digital photo printing system to get instant satisfaction from their digital devices or camera phones.

The new terminal marks a breakthrough in interactive, self-service digital photo processing, featuring an easy to use GUI (Graphical User Interface). With its large touch screen and high-speed memory card readers, it offers language selection, print size selection, border packages, picture editing functions and accepts all digital camera media types directly, as well as picture transfer via Bluetooth® wireless technology. For the retailer, an added benefit, apart from reduced staffing involvement, is the software controlled reader, which enables changes made by camera manufacturers to card operation or format to be incorporated through a simple software update, protecting the retailer’s investment well into the future.

The new terminal's Bluetooth® wireless technology option enables retailers to tap into another fast-growing source of revenue from mobile phone users, by being able to print their digital photos.

Customers can pay for their prints at a cash register, or PhotoGenie can be enabled for payment transactions by adding a receipt printer and external card reader (including chip and pin support). The system with the UP-DR150 printer can be used as a stand-alone desktop system, as part of a kiosk, or as an integrated retail solution in photoshops.

“The PhotoGenie digital photo input terminal together with the UP-DR150 digital photo printer connect to form a perfect retail solution, with minimum staff maintenance for the retailer,” pointed out Fredrik Fagerstedt, Digital Photography Europe, Sony Europe.

The new print station terminal is ideal for photo, electronic and telecoms shops, retail chains, supermarkets or large stores as part of a digital photo finishing solution.
