Horacio is a DPNow.com hero. A cardiac surgeon living in Argentina, in his spare time Horacio is a hugely accomplished and versatile photographer. He can do almost anything; landscapes, abstract, and travel photography. Horacio and his wife travel widely and our pick from Horacio's today originates from a trip to India in 2012. This is a Sadhu, or Indian holy man.

Horacio explains: "The one you chose for POTD is from a sadhu man, a holy man, an ascetic and wandering monk. Solely dedicated to achieving liberation, the fourth and final stage of life, through meditation and contemplation. They left behind all material attachments and live in caves, forests and temples all over India and Nepal.

"In this case they where in a pilgrimage to Varanasi. This happens every 12 years. They live in a palace at the Ganges riverside or in the streets in very restricted conditions. These people live totally naked without any possession, they do not cut their hair ever and they cover their bodies with funerary ashes form the crematorium at the riverside. The picture from the young man bathing nude in the Ganges river is one of them, cover with ashes."

The trip to India was one of Horacio's first since investing in a new Nikon D800 and an array of lenses:

"I made a long trip visiting many cities in the Rajasthan State, the largest of India and one of the most beautiful. I visited Dehli, Jaipur, Ranakpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Pushkar, Agra, Orcha, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Aurangabad and Kathmandu and Patan in Nepal.I carried in my back all the way my 6.0 Kilograms of Nikon gear, that is the D800, and the original lenses; the 16-35mm, the 24-70mm and the 80-400mm. The 24-70 was the most used. It was rewarding of course!!
I took over 5600 pictures. I must say that the quality of the files, the resolution, the auto white balance and the auto-iso is extremely good and worked really over my expectations. The colors where fantastic in all conditions as well as the videos."
