ryme-intrinseca (real name: Becky) is this Thursday's pick for the Digital Photography Now Picture of the Day. What caught my eye with this picture was the remarkable tonality of the image. It's almost like a beautifully crafted painting. The subject is interesting, too - an old war time 'pill box' on the Dorset coast. Becky describes the picture:
"It's a WW2 pillbox on Studland Beach, Dorset - it used to be on top of the cliff, but fell down due to erosion many years ago. The shot was taken shortly before sunset - unfortunately the beach faces east, so there wasn't a lot of light on the subject."
Becky adds: "It is an HDR from three RAW files, taken at 2 stops apart and combined in Photomatix. I chose to convert it to HDR because it was pretty much impossible to take an exposure that retained both sky and cliff detail! I also love bright colours, and the HDR helped to bring out the colour of the cliff."
As HDR goes, this is a subtle implementation and one that has really added to the picture in a subtle but very effective way.
