Mobile Operandi launches MOPHONE in Europe
Web synchronized service to transform mobile phones into entertainment centres
May 18, 2004 – Mobile Operandi, a wireless services company that makes mobile entertainment easy, fast and fun, today launches its new Synchronized Content Service (SCS) named MOPHONE. The service enables users to turn their mobile phones into mobile entertainment centres, sharing content across all mobile phone networks. The service allows customers to use the web to easily create, manage and share personal photos/graphics, ringtones, contact information, games and messages. Currently the mobile entertainment experience has been hampered by complicated devices, confusing portal navigation, connectivity issues and incompatible content problems. MOPHONE reduces the complexity of cell phone devices and data networks by merging the two technologies through a familiar web interface.
High Consumer Demand for Mobile Services
Ovum expects mobile consumer data traffic to reach US$100 billion in 2007 and it believes that the wireless industry must put its mobile consumer application strategy in place now to capture a share of the market. “Consumer uptake in terms of messages and downloads of new services is growing significantly and demand for content is high,” said Steve Gruber, Ovum.
Further to this prediction, Patrick Payne, CEO of Mobile Operandi states, “We are meeting the needs of mobile consumers right now. We created MOPHONE to dramatically simplify things – it lets the user control their mobile phone from the web, which is intuitive and faster, and addresses the consumer’s need for ease of use.”
Mobile Entertainment + MOPHONE = Easy
MOPHONE, a patent-pending Synchronized Content Service (SCS), is the first to unify the essential mobile data service layers:
• Provisioning (device configuration and service activation)
• Applications (functional operation and tools)
• Content (messaging and multimedia services)
The end-result to the MOPHONE subscriber is a seamless service that allows management of mobile phone features such as picture messaging, sharing images, creating slide shows, ringtones and multimedia messaging through the convenience of a web browser. MOPHONE subscribers create and manage their mobile content on a personal web site from which they can easily drag and drop or download the content to their phones, and vice versa. Subscribers can also send content from their personal MOPHONE website directly to other mobile phones.
Payne continues, “It is common knowledge that using the new multimedia features on colour mobiles is complicated. As a result, only 10% to 15% of these new features are currently being used because of user interface complexity. Our intent is to eliminate frustration and give people a positive experience with mobile entertainment services so that they can take advantage of these fun new features.”
