Here's what caught our eye on the day before the show officially opens

We kick off our coverage here at Anaheim for this year's PMA show with some scene-setting and a report from the Sneak Peek preview event that is traditionally held at the show for journalists on the day before the show opens. We have a 25 picture annotated gallery further down the page.
First of all, why is the show in Anaheim instead of Las Vegas, where everyone preferred it to be? Unofficially, the word is that the construction work in Las Vegas started just after the recent CES show prompted a temporary move to Anaheim this year and it's expected that the show will return to Vegas next year. Whether the Anaheim move is the cause or not, the plain fact is that the show is much smaller than it has been in a very long time. This is debated in our show preview, so I won't go over old ground again. But the big question is whether the show will recover when it returns to Vegas next year? With Canon and Pentax no longer on the show floor, and a much smaller booth than usual from Panasonic, among others, plus a much more limited turn out by journalists here, things look rather bleak. I hear many saying that PMA needs to move away from its late winter slot as it's too close to CES and the new Japanese trade show, CP+. We'll see...
But as our coverage below demonstrates, the show isn't dead yet. Sigma, for example, has announced half a dozen new lenses and two new cameras.
Anyway, here's a batch of 25 images from the Sneak Peek, along with detailed captions, that I hope will give you a flavour of what's happening here in Anaheim. And don't forget to keep in touch with our Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/dpnowdotcom.
