Microtek denies news of Umax take over

News report suggesting Umax is trying to take over rival scanner manufacturer, Microtek, is strongly denied.

Has scanner and digital camera make, Microtek, been taken over by scanner manufacturer, Umax? That’s what was apparently implied in a news story on the Web site of MacWorld UK last week. Not so, says Microtek MII’s Gina Hsieh:

“Microtek has never agreed to any third party take over of its business in Europe or elsewhere,” Hsieh told dpnow. She added: “The business relationship between Microtek and Umax System GmbH (USG) is specific and limited. Microtek International recently appointed USG as the company’s exclusive distributor in Europe for certain high-end scanner products, i.e. the ArtixScan and ScanMaker range.

“However, Microtek’s other products, including digital cameras, will continue to be marketed and sold by Microtek. USG will discontinue distribution of the PowerLook scanners in Europe as part of this agreement.”

Microtek has issued two press releases in an effort to clarify the situation – click here to read them.
