Spotted at the Focus on Imaging show in Birmingham this week is a new accessory that is such a good idea, you wonder why they weren’t piled on stockists’ shelves a long time ago. It’s a portable battery-powered CD burner that can archive flash memory cards to CDR or CDRW without the need for a host PC.
This natty device, finished in a striking yellow, comes from a new Taiwanese brand, Apacer and has the grand product title: Apacer Disc Steno CP 100. Think of it as a portable lithium ion rechargeable battery powered CDR/CDRW burner plus 6-in-1 flash memory card reader with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed port for PC connection, when required and you have the Apacer Disc Steno CP 100 specifications in a nut shell.
The CD burner ratings are 24x write, 10x re-write and 24x read. Multi-session recording is supported so you can transfer more than one card-full to a single CD.
Compact Flash I and II, including microdrive, SD/MMC, Memory Stick and SmartMedia cards are accommodated by the now familiar pair of apertures, in this instance, sited on the right hand side of the unit as viewed from the front.
The Apacer Disc Steno CP 100 is being distributed in the UK by Intro 2002 and the expected retail selling price is £150 including VAT. First shipments are expected in April.
