Today, our featured photographer on the DPNow Picture of the Day is Paul, and is registered on the DPNow forum and galleries as Pops. Paul has produced an excellent smoke ribbon effect, inspired by another DPNow forum member, and the scene of the action was none other than his garden shed, more usually functioning as Paul's hide for is superb back garden bird photography.
Paul says: "I had fun taking this type of shot and Pol actually supplied the motivation.
I took this in my garden shed. I have it kitted out with a black backdrop, black curtains at door and windows and a black painted roof. (gets real dark in there) I positioned 2 joss sticks about 3 feet in front of the backdrop. The camera was mounted on a tripod around 2 feet from the subject. I first focused on the tips of the joss sticks and then raised the camera slightly. I positioned a flash to the right of the joss sticks. It's then just a matter of gently wafting the rising smoke and taking the shot. I would estimate 1 out of every ten shots created a pattern worth keeping."
Well, that was certainly a keeper, Paul!
