Champagne Sunset, by Autumn

Audrey is well known as Autumn on the DPNow forum. She has resisted the lure of the DSLR camera, but this has not prevented her from posting some excellent images.
Seeing as up here in the northern hemisphere we are enduring early winter, Audrey's view through a holiday drink from the summer is all the more attractive.
Here Audrey explains how she came to take the picture: "We were on an All Inclusive holiday with friends and were having a pre dinner drink of Cava sitting on the bar terrace just as the sun was setting. I held my flute up to see the sun through it and could see the palm trees, so I decided to take a photograph. I put my drink on the terrace railing and held the camera until I could fill the frame and to include the palm trees. It is highly likely that I used the Time Exposure so as not to move the camera."
The slight warmth in tone of the drink in the flute contrasts nicely with the the cooler hue of the blue in the sky, and yet that warmth in tone of the drink actually represents a coolness in its physical refreshment! I particularly like the palm tress standing tall in the background as well.
Audrey adds: "I was quite pleased with the result because it was a bit different. In fact I entered it for one of our club competitions and although it wasn't a winner, the judge's comments were that he was attracted to the photograph because it was not something 'Straight out of the box!' (Whatever that might mean?). His comment was that it would have been better if there had been more stem showing, which is what Stephen said. In fact, there was more stem on the original - I just need to improve my PP (post processing) skills."
It's true that, technically, the bottom of the images is very dark and this obscures some of the form of the glass, but the rest of the image goes some way to forgiving that.
"As you will see, it is taken with the little Panasonic Lumix DMC FX01. I carry it with me everywhere and of course it goes in an evening bag when on holiday. My other cameras are the Canon Powershot G3 which I still like and use for the tilt and turn viewfinder and the Fuji Finepix S9500 with the 300mm built in lens. I have never owned a digital SLR. I have recently had three images accepted for our Regional Competition and two out of three were taken with this camera .Opportunities for picture making are always there but I would miss them if I did not have my 'Baby' camera with me all the time .Sometimes I think I would like an SLR, but I will wait until I can justify the expense and there is one with a tilt and turn display that I can afford. I wonder how long a wait that will be?"
Not long, I shouldn't think as live becomes increasingly prevalent in DSLRs and other cameras that are like DSLRs, with interchangeable lenses, but with electronic viewfinders instead of optical reflex ones.
You can see more of Autumn's work in his DPNow gallery - and it's well worth a look.
