Moon in Cloud, by Mias

Mias is from Cambridgeshire, in the UK, and a regular Canon EOS-400D DSLR user. However, the picture from Mias' gallery we're featuring today was taken on a Canon Powershot A650is compact. And that makes the result all the more remarkable. The effect is almost three dimensional and could be mistaken for a painting at first glance.
"I am pleased that you rate my photo enough to include it in your POTD section," says Mias.
"It was taken on the 17/5/08 from a bedroom windowsill using my Canon Powershot A650is on a tripod at 2.5 secs, f/4.8, ISO 80, no flash.
I have seen some brilliant moon shots on DPNow, fancied a go myself and had been watching a full(ish) moon pass by for a few nights when this particular evening I saw how the moonlight was creating the spectacular colours in the cloud. I intended using my Canon 400d but the A650 was on the tripod from earlier, so, using it for a couple of 'test shots' got the result you see which may have passed whilst changing camera's. I haven't taken another on this subject since."
It would certainly be hard to improve on the aura that this image exudes.
Would you like one of your pictures featured on DPNow's POTD?
We are always on the look out for great pictures posted to the user-galleries here on DPNow. POTDs are selected from the gallery and featured every week day. The gallery facility here is completely free; all you need to do is register as a user on our discussion forum and you will get an automatic 25MB of space, which is good for around 125 pictures uploaded at web resolution, about 200K per picture. At the time of writing we had nearly 10,000 pictures on the galleries and it's well worth a browse.
Picture of the month
At the end of each month we will select our favourite image of the month and declare a Picture of the Month.
The DPNow Golden Gallery
