Intuitive imaging: Wacom at Photokina 2008
Release Issued by Wacom:

Wacom demonstrates the potential of intuitive image editing tools from 23 – 28 September, in Hall 04.1 at Stand H-018

Wacom today announces that it will present tools, tips and photographic art at Photokina 2008. The leading manufacturer of pen tablets, interactive pen displays and intuitive interface solutions will be showing a wide selection of products for the professional and consumer markets at the leading international trade fair for the imaging sector. Two renowned imaging professionals – Robin Preston and Robert Hranitzky – will also provide tips and tricks for digital image editing. In addition, Wacom is supporting the exhibition “The mirror with a memory” by photographer Michael Ebert, which is on display as part of the Visual Gallery in Hall 1.

This year, the Cintiq 12WX is the flagship product for the professional market. The compact and flexible interactive pen display can be tested by visitors to the stand and will receive a prestigious TIPA Award on the opening day of the trade show: 27 leading photo and imaging magazines have voted the Cintiq 12WX Europe’s best photo and imaging product in the category “digital accessory”. The prize ceremony will take place on 23rd September. Wacom has further highlights in store for professional users: the Intuos3 pen tablet system and the large Cintiq 21UX.

Wacom will also have the ideal product for the consumer market at Photokina: Bamboo Fun is a stylishly designed pen tablet and comprehensive imaging software package which is available in two sizes and helps ambitious hobby photographers make the most out of their photos using the pen and their PC or Mac.

Two experts will offer new insights to professionals and hobby photographers at the Wacom stand by demonstrating the advantages of working with a digital pen: Robin Preston, Wacom’s senior evangelist, has worked successfully for many years as an image editing specialist. He will demonstrate how photographic artwork can be created with the help of a Wacom pen tablet or interactive pen display and Adobe Photoshop. Robert Hranitzky, a graphic designer and imaging expert, will give visitors to the Wacom stand a glimpse into his bag of digital imaging tricks.

The results that can be reached with digital imaging technologies are evident in the works of professional photographer Michael Ebert: his exhibition “The mirror with a memory” will be on view in the Visual Gallery in Hall 1 and is supported by Wacom. It presents photographs from the era of the American Civil War that have been digitally restored to reveal a treasure trove of historically fascinating and emotional details. This is the fourth time that the Visual Gallery has presented a high-end exhibition of remarkable work by internationally renowned professional photographers and emerging talent at Photokina. Visitors are invited to take inspiration from the images in an exhibition space of over 4,000 m² in Hall 1.

“As in the past, Photokina is one of the most important events for Wacom. It enables us to reach users, dealers and strategic partners all in one place,” says Stefan Kirmse, marketing director at Wacom Europe GmbH. “This year we are particularly looking forward to using Photokina as a platform to present the new face of Wacom and sharing our enthusiasm for the company and its products with trade specialists, professional photographers and amateurs alike. Photokina is an ideal launch pad for the promotion of communication, the sharing of experience, and the exchange of new ideas.”

Wacom is presenting its new corporate design for the first time in Germany at this year’s Photokina. Wacom’s new image for its brand was launched in 2007 as a result of a strategic repositioning of the company. The central theme that serves as the focus for the brand is “Open up. Sense more.” This encourages a new approach to implementing Wacom’s vision of bringing people and technology together, while reflecting the company’s philosophy to be receptive to innovative ideas, original approaches to solving problems and new strategies.
