Release Issued by Currys:

Currys.Digital To Offer New Digital Photo Storage And Processing Services

  • New service available online and at in-store photo processing booths
  • Capable of processing one million prints per day
  • Prints from only 3p
  • Currys, the UK’s leading electrical retailer, today announces the launch of its new MYPIX-service, a market-leading digital photo storage and processing service.
  • The MYPIX photo service will offer an instant and cost-effective digital printing service via stand-alone booths, across 170 Currys.digital stores. The service will also be available online at www.currys.co.uk/mypix, where customers will be able to access unlimited picture storage for free and print direct to their homes from just 3p per photo.

The market for photo processing is one of the fastest growing in Europe, fuelled by innovative new services and higher penetration of digital cameras and broadband. It is estimated to be worth £6 billion per annum, of which an estimated 15% is ordered online.

This move is further evidence of a continued commitment from Currys to strengthen its position as a leading retailer within the digital photography category. Earlier this year Currys introduced a training programme designed to place 500 Digital SLR experts across its stores. It also continued to enhance its in-store digital SLR range and launched a nationwide photography competition with Olympus and David Bailey.

The MyPIX-service, which is being rolled out across stores from this week, has been developed and implemented by PIXmania.com, DSGi’s pan-European e-commerce brand.  The service is part of a multi-channel execution which will be offered across all of the Group’s e-commerce sites, including dixons.co.uk and pcworld.co.uk.

Dave Poulter, trading manager imaging of Currys, comments:  “As prices continue to fall, digital camera ownership has seen enormous growth in the UK which consequently has led to a huge demand in photo processing services – it is estimated that 2.5 billion photos are to be processed in the UK market in the next twelve months. The launch of the MyPIX photo service will provide our customers with access to a range of convenient and cost-effective digital printing services either in-store or on-line at home.

The MyPIX online photo service is capable of processing one million prints per day and will offer a wide range of gift items capable of incorporating customers’ digital images including calendars, photo books, mugs, T-shirts and pens. The retailer is offering customers their first 60 photo prints free.
