Dreams, Nightmares And New Environments Explored In Exhibition  

A photography exhibition examining dreams, nightmares and living in a new country is running at the hat Factory in Luton until the end of July.       

Two 26-year-old Media Production graduates from the University of Bedfordshire have joined forces to display their work which formed part of their final year projects.

Natasia Cuffy from Luton has delved into the subconscious and captured the fleeting memories of dreams and nightmares that emerge from the depths of the mind when sleeping and linger throughout the day. 

Portuguese student Joao Curro is exhibiting his collection of photos called Saudade, which centres on adapting to a foreign country, and how it influences the visual and emotional perception of people, places and relationships.

He said: “The exhibition is an exciting display of work looking at the complex issues of the  subconscious experience of dreams, nightmares and adapting to new surroudings. Natasia has also put together a book to accompany her photos which includes short stories describing life-changing events that impact on the psyche and lure the subconscious experience into conscious life.

“Saudade is a Portuguese word which does not have a direct translation to English, but conveys a yearning for the homeland and my work explores my own experience of my move to England.”

The exhibition in the Basement Lounge of the Bute Street gallery, will run until 31 July from 8am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday. It will then return to Central Luton Library in St George’s Square, in November.
